The Classic at Madden’s to host 2025 MGA State Amateur Championship
The MGA Amateur is one of the state’s largest golfing events of the year and Madden’s is honored to host this year’s tournament on its championship course, The Classic at Madden’s. Play will take place Monday and Tuesday, with the 60 low-scoring participants advancing to Wednesday’s 18 holes.
In preparation for this prestigious event, The Classic at Madden’s has implemented significant course enhancements to ensure world-class playing conditions.
Tee Box Reconstruction Project
All 79 tee boxes are undergoing comprehensive reconstruction beginning in spring 2025, involving:
- Removal of existing turf
- Laser leveling
- Resodding with custom-grown bentgrass sod
Phase One: 41 tee boxes to be completed by July 2025
Phase Two: Remaining 38 tee boxes to commence in August 2025, reopening in spring 2026
Tee boxes were strategically scheduled for reconstruction to maintain standard course yardages.
About the Bentgrass Sod
The bentgrass sod is a custom-grown 007/McDonald blend, specifically cultivated for The Classic’s unique environment. These “Superbents” offer:
- Superior recovery rates
- Enhanced shade tolerance
- Greater sustainability with reduced water requirements
- Improved disease resistance, minimizing pesticide use
Grown at Heath Farms in Coloma, Wisconsin, this is the same elite seed blend used on The Classic’s driving range tee.
Additional Course Enhancements
- New Ohio’s Best white sand installed in all 56 bunkers over the past three years
- Selective clearing of wooded areas to enhance vistas, airflow, and turf health
- Advanced agronomic practices to promote firmer, faster, and more playable surface
We are proud to continue setting the standard for championship golf—both in Minnesota and nationally. Thank you for playing The Classic at Madden’s.
