Golf, The King, Giving Back….
This week, many of us will enjoy The Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, played in Orlando. The King will be up in the booth. His grandson, Sam Saunders, will be competing. Another champion crowned. All will be well in the world of golf, and we will look ahead to the Masters, where Arnie changed that world forever for the better.
What is amazing is how the golf world also changes the whole world for the better.
Golf people stand out in the world of sports. There is a grace and charm about the game, the venues where it is played, and the values it perpetuates, that shines.
It sparkles, really.
People who play and love this game nurture it, and utilize it for endeavors that transcend competition, talent and skill. If asked to name a person who exudes those qualities, how many of us would say, immediately, Arnold Palmer? That answer would come from across all demographic, ethnic and nationality lines. It would be genuine and intensely felt.
We should thank the good Lord every day for the little birdie that whispered in an old Scotsman’s ear those many, many centuries ago.
“Hit’em hard. It’ll land somewhere”
