Counting Down to {our 89th!} Opening Day
At Madden’s on Gull Lake, we’re counting down the days to open for the season on April 20th. Now we’ve done this a time or two, 89 to be exact, but opening weekend will always be our most wonderful time of the year.
Any snow bird can tell you what it takes to get their home fires burning again after a warm winter spent anywhere but in Minnesota: fire up the utilities, restock the refrigerator, arrange for snow removal- you get the drift (pun intended).

Opening Madden’s for the Season, by the Numbers
It’s amazing what our team does each spring!
Housekeeping
Cleans 292 guest rooms,100 employee dorms, and makes 700 beds
Shampoos, sweeps, scrubs, and vacuums 5 acres of flooring
Sanitizes 450 toilets
Grounds Maintenance
Applies 300 yards of landscape mulch, equivalent to 30 dump truck loads
Prepares to plant 40,000 annuals in over 150 beds
Rakes and cleans up over 500 acres of lawn
Sweeps and cleans over 8 acres of asphalt
Installs over 100 sections of dock
Prepares 32 resort vehicles
Golf Course Maintenance
Needle-tines, top dresses, and rolls over 10 acres of putting greens
Replaces over 150 tons of bunker sand
Charges up and fine tunes over 22 miles of irrigation lines
Sharpens and prepares over 100 grass cutting units
Prepares 65 utility carts and 180 golf carts
Refurbishes and installs over 200 bunker rakes, 80 ball washers, 45 benches, 130 garbage containers, 72 flag poles, 350 tee markers, and 12 water cages for coolers
Building Maintenance
Works 1,600 hours getting water running throughout all 1,000 acres of the property and checking and making repairs to approximately 100 buildings.
Golf Shops & Madden Bros. Market
Stocks 20,000 pieces of inventory in the golf shops (golf shirts, shoes, hats, and gloves) and Madden Bros. Market (gifts, snacks, jewelry, and home décor).
